Many medieval writings show how fluid the transition from orality to writing is. This workshop is dedicated to the processes of writing down what was said in the Middle Ages and – beyond that – in pre-modern times. Although the focus is on the Middle Ages, contributions on other eras are welcome! The workshop is intended to give scholars from the fields of (book) history, linguistics, literature and law the opportunity to present their material and discuss case studies. The participation of emerging scholars and early career researchers is expressly encouraged. The workshop will take place in Hamburg from 10 to 11 November and is hosted by the Akademie der Wissenschaften project “Formulae – Litterae – Chartae”. Please send an abstract (max. length: one page) for a 30-minute paper, a brief biography and a list of publications, if applicable, to the organiser Prof. Dr. Philippe Depreux (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 15 July 2022.
The full call for papers (in German) with further details on travel subsidies for selected speakers etc. can be found here.
