Call for Papers: Quaerendo Special Anniversary Issue, 2020

Quaerendo (Brill, ISSN 1570-0690 https://brill.com/view/journals/qua/qua-overview.xml) invites you to submit a paper for possible inclusion in a special issue. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Quaerendo, one of the leading peer-reviewed journals on the history of books and manuscripts in Europe, especially but not exclusively the Low Countries and its neighbours. To commemorate this milestone a special issue will be published in the spring of 2020, which will be presented festively at the SHARP Conference 2020 in Amsterdam.

The theme for this anniversary issue is ‘The Past of Our Future: Moving Perspectives on Innovation and Tradition in the Book Market 0-2100’. We welcome articles not exceeding 6,000 words including, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • technical innovations in the production of manuscript and print
  • innovations and traditions in book historical study
  • the role of the invention of printing in scholarship and the rise of nation states
  • innovation: market-driven or technology-driven?
  • diverging paths: book history in the late 20th century
  • between word and image
  • innovations in book history: the digital humanities

The deadline to submit abstracts is 1 September 2019. If accepted, the final draft is due on 1 February 2020 for peer review. To submit an abstract, please use the Editorial Manager system online (https://www.editorialmanager.com/QUA/default.aspx), or email us at one of the addresses below.
