New publication: Ulrich Huse (ed.): Zensur und Medienkontrolle in demokratischen Gesellschaften. Kodex 7 (2017)

Kodex is the annual publication of the Internationale Buchwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (IBG), based in Munich (more information here), published by Harrassowitz in Wiesbaden. The newest issue (volume 7) was published late last year, containing contributions from the 17th annual IBG conference, which was held in Stuttgart in July 2016 – we posted the CfP on our blog. Ulrich Huse convened the conference on censorship and media control, and has also edited the volume.

Topics include the role of libraries in the censorship process, right-wing media outlets, IS content, hate speech on social media, film censorship in East and West Germany as well as censorship at Frankfurt Book Fair.

The table of contents can be downloaded on the publisher’s website, here.

Kodex 2017 is preceded by Kodex 2016: Transforming Book Culture in China, 1600-2016, with contributions by Shih-chen Chao (Manchester), Robert E. Hegel (St. Louis), Lena Henningsen (Freiburg), Michel Hockx (Indiana), Rui Kunze (St. Gallen), Cathleen Päthe (Erlangen-Nürnberg), Xiang Ren (Southern Queensland), Dagmar Schäfer (Berlin), Gregory Adam Scott (Edinburgh), Giorgio Strafella (St. Gallen), Daria Berg (St. Gallen), Hui Faye Xiao (Kansas), Winnie L.M.
