CfP: Materiality as a challenge. The late medieval codex and the basic historical sciences, Heidelberg, 16-17 February 2017

Two research projects of the DFG collaborative research center 933 Material Text Cultures.
Materiality and Presence of Writing in Non-Typographic Societies, projects A06 (The Paper Revolution in Late Mediaeval Europe.
Comparative Investigations into Changing Technologies and Culture in ‘Social Space’
) and B10 (Rolls for the King. The Format of Rolls in Royal Administration and Historiography in the Late Middle Ages in Western Europe), are hosting a collaborative graduate student workshop in February of 2017. The workshop, titled “Materiality as a challenge”, will consider the the late medieval codex (1200-1500) from the viewpoint of the basic historical sciences. The organizers are looking for contributions from a variety of areas, including but not limited to the history of writing, image studies, and the history of the book.
