Our blog followers and readers may be interested in an upcoming talk to be held in Mainz on Thursday, April 28, 2016 (6.15 pm, Philosophicum building, P204) by Robert Darnton, eminent book historian and librarian. He will be speaking about censorship; the title of his talk is, “Die Zensoren. Wie staatliche Kontrolle die Literatur beeinflusst – vom vorrevolutionären Frankreich über British Indien bis in die DDR”. The evening event will be moderated by book historian Stephan Füssel, Gutenberg-Chair of Book Studies in Mainz. More information can be found here.
The event is part of a series titled “Geisteswissenschaft – eine Positionsbestimmung”, which the university is organizing on occasion of the 70th anniversary of its re-opening after WWII. Other speakers include Siri Hustvedt, Eva Geulen and Ulrich Gumbrecht.
