“The Pope and the Book in the Late Middle Ages (1350-1500)” is the title of an upcoming conference in Mainz. The conference will deal with the education of cardinals and popes, with the production of manuscripts and with the function of libraries during this period. Prof. Dr. Peter Reifenberg (Mainz) and Prof. Dr. Rainer Berndt SJ (Frankfurt) are the conveners of this trilingual (German, English, French) conference, which will feature talks by scholars from the UK, Italy, France, Spain, and Germany. The keynote on “The Papal Library as a Fingerprint” will be held by Rainer Berndt on Thursday, 4 September at 6:45 pm; this keynote is open to the general public. Dr. Anette Löffler, who also presented at our Network Conference held in Freiburg in May 2013, will be involved in the third stream on the function and use of libraries. The complete program as well as information on registration can be found here. Questions can be directed to ebh.akademie@bistum-mainz.de.
