The Internationale Buchwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (IBG) has published the program of its fifteenth annual conference. This year’s conference will be held in Klagenfurt (Austria), at the Alpen-Adria-University, from September 25 to September 26. The picture book, which takes on a central role within the children’s book market, will be the focus of this conference. The intermediality and interactivity of books will be discussed, using the picture book and its history and current developments as a case study. Several papers from a variety of disciplines will be presented, including papers on graphic novels, Maurice Sendak’s classic “Where the Wild Things Are”, and non-fiction picture books.
In addition to the conference, from 11 September to 31 October, a special exhibit will be on display at the Alpen-Adria Galerie Klagenfurt. The topic of the exhibit is “Time in Children’s Books”, and the exhibit will feature artwork by the illustrators Willy Puchner, Lisbeth Zwerger, Rotraut Susanne Berner and Quint Buchholz. On the first day of the conference, the evening keynote will be held in the museum by Silke Rabus (Vienna).
